Tiger Skin and Bones recovered near Tezpur

Guwahati, 30th July 2005: Acting on special tips, the forest staff of Kalamati Forest Gate under the Missamari Police Station near Tezpur has nabbed a wildlife trader along with a 2.2 meter long Tiger Skin freshly killed in Assam-Arunachal Pradesh Border and about 10.5 kg of tiger bones. The trader whose name is Md. Zilani interestingly used a police vehicle to transport the tiger skin. This shows that he has been involved in the tiger trade for past few years and have good network. One Police officer who was in the police vehicle has been suspended from his service as it is thought that he might also be involved in the illegal trade on tiger.

A team of Wildlife Crime Monitoring Centre have visited the site along with legal advisor and provided crucial legal tips to the forest officials dealing with the case. Further interrogation of the trader Md. Zilani will be done in coming days. It is hoped that interrogation would yield more crucial intelligence that could help us to catch the bigger traders involved in trafficking.
