Internship Opportunities
Aaranyak, a Society for Biodiversity Conservation in Northeast India
(Recognized by the Govt. of India as Scientific and Industrial Research
Organization) offers internship opportunities for post-graduate or graduate
students, in its ongoing conservation programmes particularly aimed at
research and conservation of Tiger, Elephant and Rhino. Interns will be
working with experienced conservationists of Aaranyak and also its
collaborators. Only a limited number of internship positions are available at
this moment.
Objectives:

To obtain hands-on
experience in conservation science, environmental education and related
fields.

To expose them to
prevailing conservation issues and ongoing practical interventions in the
region through work assignments.
Scope of
internship:
The internship will
cover (any one or in combination) the following broad topics*. However, the
intern is expected to design a small, issue based composite proposal to work
on the issue in depth.
- Identification
of threats to ecosystems and possible interventions to minimize those.
- Assessment of
changes in forest landscape.
- Ecosystem
economics.

Conservation and local livelihoods.
- Awareness
generation among local audience on cause and effect of loss of natural
resources through education and outreach programmes.
- Strengthen capacity
of local community organizations for sustainable management of ecosystem
and its resources.
- Design mitigation
measures to combat the degradation of ecosystems.
- Assess impact of
human-animal conflict.

Participatory workshop planning for local stakeholders, workshop execution
and proceeding preparation.
* A topic would be
decided only after a thorough discussion with the interns keeping in mind
their SWOT analysis output and also that of their mentor within Aaranyak.
Eligibility:
Applicants should be enrolled in a course of study leading to a formal
qualification or associated with an institution or conservation organization.
English will be primary language for communication. Good computer skills
(Word/Excel) are essential.
Minimum age 20 years.
Person with any nationality can apply.
Duration:
4 weeks minimum to 12
weeks maximum.
Financial:
Interns are not paid. Travel costs, travel arrangements and living
accommodation are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring
institution. Interns must have adequate medical insurance coverage. Local
interns (from Northeast India) may apply separately for a small stipend to
cover food, lodging, travel and other necessary cost during fieldwork.
A foreign intern is
required to pay an internship fee to cover internship
management expenses that may vary based on duration of the internship.

interest and tentative period when you will be available, (b)
a brief CV describing
your training and experience, (c) a support letter from institutional
advisor, (d) a recent photograph and (e) any additional information that
could assist evaluation.
