Title of the Project: Distribution and status of Otters in western Assam.

Project objectives:

1. To determine the present status and distribution of otters in Western Assam.

2. To develop a GIS based map on species and habitat distribution of otters..

Project Update (June 2007):

The major finding of this study as updated was that the otters are very rare in the survey area and in all cases it is the protected areas where otters are restricted at this moment. The study could verify presence of otters only in the Manas Tiger Reserve in western Assam. Field survey is completed and data analysis is on for the final report.
