Title of the Project: A detailed study of Butterfly diversity and its ecology in and around Dehing-Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary.

Project objectives:

1. To document butterfly diversity in and around the Dehing-Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary.

2. To document food plant and life cycle of some species of butterfly.

3. To create awareness about butterflies and its conservation.

Project Update (June 2007):

Sponsored to study the diversity of butterflies in an around the recently recognized Dihing-Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary. Investigator Sam Fakay, an undergraduate student, under the guidance of Mr. Rajib Rudra Tariang, Lecturer in Zoology at the Margherita College has achieved the following progress during Sept’06 to March’07.

1. Identified and recorded 64 species of butterflies till March 07.

2. Life cycle study of five species has been completed while study on few other species continues.

3. Margherita College Butterfly Study Cell has been formed to spread awareness about butterfly among the fellow student community.
