Greater Adjutant

Guwahati City

Title of the Project: To study the habits and habitats of globally threatened Greater Adjutant Stork (Leptoptilos dubius) along with their density in Greater Guwahati.

Project Investigator: Saikia Bhaskar

Project objectives:

1. To document the Greater Adjutant Stork (GAS) inhabiting localities and habitats in the Guwahati City.

2. To count their winter and summer individuals.

3. To aware the residents around stork habitats about significance of Stork and need of their conservation for future generation.

Project Update (June 2007):During the last six months Investigator Bhaskar Saikia, under guidance from Dr. Mridul Kumar Borthakur, Lecturer in Zoology at the B Borooah College has identified and recorded the GAS inhabiting localities in the city. He is also attempting to make the people aware about the significance of Adjutant Storks for ecological security of mankind.
