Title of the Project: A Study on habitat and diversity of winter avifauna in Dheer beel, Assam using GIS and remote sensing.

Project objectives:

1. To study the latest winter avifaunal diversity in Dheer Beel.

2. To study the avifauna in relation to the temporal progress during the winter season.

3. To make a comparative analysis of the proposed study with the previous studies.

4. To create GIS based spatial database for the entire wetland for further studies.

Project Update (June 2007):

During the last six months investigator Alolika Singha, under guidance from Dr. Hilloljyoti Singha, Lecturer in Zoology at the Birjhora College, Bongaigaon has carried out field survey in the Dheer Beel (wetland) from 0700 h to 1200 h every 15 days using a country boat. A total of 40 species were recorded during the survey. GPS points have been taken around the wetland, habitats and from the villages to prepare maps. Fieldwork completed and data analysis is on to complete the study.
