3. Shankarghola Community Project

What is the Project all about?

The project was initiated in a small community protected forest at Shankarghola, Bongaigaon with the prime objective to study the distribution and status of Golden Langur through community participation.

What we intended to do in the Project?

The project intended to involve the local youth in assisting the biologists to gain census details of the Golden Langur and thereby enhance their knowledge and level of awareness towards Golden Langur conservation.

What output was achieved out of the project?

Field Training for Students from Shankarghola and nearby colleges

The project has been able to win the support and confidence of the local youth and motivate them towards conservation of Golden Langur. A socio-economic survey was also conducted in the fringe villages to develop a community development project in the future.

What will we do in the future?

On the basis of the findings of the socio-economic survey conducted under the project efforts would be made to develop a strategic plan for building the capacities of the local communities in biodiversity conservation.
