Aaranyak/DSWF Second Anti-poaching floating boat camp handed over to Kaziranga NP by His Excellency the Governor of Assam
Aaranyak - a society for biodiversity conservation in North East India and the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation of UK has contributed to the Kaziranga National Park their second anti-poaching floating boat camp to enhance vigil in the river Brahmaputra along the northern part of Kaziranga National Park to reduce poaching threats. Mr. David Back representing London Property Industry has kindly contributed the funds to construct this second anti-poaching floating boat camp for Kaziranga NP.
The boat camp was formally handed over at Guwahati on 7th January 2010 by His Excellency the Governor of Assam, Mr. J.B. Patnaik in presence of officials from Assam Forest Department, Aaranyak, other NGOs and members from Print and Electronic media. In his address the Governor of Assam, Mr. J.B. Patnaik has stressed upon the need to conserve forests and wildlife and lauded the initiatives taken by Aaranyak in collaboration with Assam Forest Department and other donors. The meeting was also graced by Mr. Suresh Chand, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Govt. of Assam. It may be mentioned here that in April 2009, the Aaranyak and the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) handed over its first anti-poaching floating boat camp to Kaziranga National PArh Authorities at Kaziranga to enhance protection of rhino, tigers and other key species found in the park. The first anti-poaching floating boat camp handed over to Kaziranga NP authorities by Aaranyak and DSWF was funded by the BBC Wildlife Fund.
