Another Wild Elephant killed by Train at Deepar Beel Ramsar Site, Guwahati, Assam

 

The Day (28 Feb 2010, Sunday) which was supposed to be celebrated as Holi had infact seen Holi with the wild blood of a wild female elephant being killed by train at about 3 AM this morning on railway track passing through the Deepar Beel Ramsar Site, Guwahati, Assam.

Two female elephants were knocked down by the speeding train this morning at about 3 AM. While one female were dragged about 20 meters before felled from the railway track to ground padded with boulders near a railway bridge and died immediately. The other female when knocked by the train and fell below the railway track and gave birth to a calf after being hit by the train. The mother fractured her legs and limping back towards the forests area near Deepar Beel leaving the calf alone at the mercy of few conservation officials. Is this development where wild elephant need to sacrifice every now and then? How long this will go on? Who is responsible and who will get punishment??
