Aaranyak, a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, working for biodiversity research and conservation in North East India is seeking a dynamic and hardworking professional with experience for a Post of Public Relations Officer (PRO) with immediate effect. Expectation:

The Public Relation Officer (PRO) is to create, maintain and enhance the reputation of the organization and shall also continuously work towards creating and ameliorating the goodwill of the organization. This will help in creating a favorable public image of the organization by strengthening its credibility and suggest competent authority in the organisation with regards to crisis management. 2. Announcement of vacancy in Legal and Advocacy Division of Aaranyak

Name of the Position: Legal Associate

Minimum Qualification: LLB with at least four years of experience/LLM with at least two years of experience. Knowledge on all environments, wildlife, forest laws are essential along with CrPC 1973, IPC, Arms Act, Evidence Act etc.

Area of Job Operations: North Eastern States of India and West Bengal and New Delhi.

Other Skills: Interpretation skills, writing and recording skills

3. Tiger Research and Conservation Division of Aaranyak will recruit two persons for the following posotions:

Background: Challenges for biodiversity conservation has become obvious in recent times. Conservation of natural resources through community involvement has shown promising outcome where forest resource dependent community is a key stakeholder. Aaranyak is engaged in such activities with indigenous communities to promote sustainable livelihoods through capacity building in production, product diversification and marketing (rural micro-entrepreneurship). While both men and women are participants in the program, women are ‘in focus’ and major participants at this stage who plays a significant role in managing both family and farms, thus contribute directly and indirectly to biodiversity conservation goals.

A. Manager Program/Program Officer:

Responsibilities:

  1. The principal responsibility will be to smoothly manage and coordinate programmatic activities (multidisciplinary-Conservation Livelihoods, Outreach, Stakeholders coordination, Communication, etc.) related to livelihoods and Natural Resource Management.
  2. These include lining up project activities, maintain timely performances, reporting performances and maintaining related databases with support from other team members.
  3. Communication with communities and stakeholders and preparation of activity report is a significant part of day to day activities for this position and hence, competence and experiences in that area is necessary.
  4. Person having knowledge as well as 4-5 years of experiences in project operations will be preferred.
  5. Excellent  working knowledge in standard computer programs is a must with knowledge on working online platform like Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.
  6. Women will be preferred for this position.

Location: To be based at Kohora, Kaziranga, Assam and duties would demand  travelling independently to various parts of Assam, often to interior villages with very basic amenities.

Qualification: Must be interested to work for the benefit of communities and conservation of biodiversity and live with very basic amenities. Person needs to be at least Bachelor or Master with 4-5 years of experience.

Remuneration: Commensurate to knowledge, skills and experiences in core area of work.

B. Project Officer- Ecotourism:

Responsibilities:

  1. The principal responsibility will be to smoothly manage and coordinate ecotourism events for group of students/individuals visiting northeast India for eco-cultural excursion.
  2. The events include coordination and collaboration with multiple institutions and thus skill in communication and teamwork is very essential. Competence and experiences in communication is necessary.
  3. The excursions are organized in the villages in partnership with indigenous tribes having basic homestays and thus need experiences working with such communities.
  4. Activities include extensive academic exercises by the visitors along with village walk, nature walks and hiking on trails and thus person having experiences of managing nature camps and similar tourism activities will get preference.
  5. Experiences on event report preparation with photo and video documentation required.
  6. Person having knowledge as well as min 3-4 years of experience in the core area of will be preferred.

4. Opportunity for vets to work on pygmy hogs under the Threatened Species Recovery Programme (TSRP), Aaranyak

Aaranyak plans to recruit a young, dynamic and ambitious veterinarian who desires to work in the field of captive management and healthcare of wild animals for Pygmy Hog Conservation Programme (PHCP) of TSRP.

Position: Project Officer

Responsibility:

  1. Managing captive pygmy hog populations in the PHCP facilities in Assam, including healthcare and clinical care and involving innovative research
  2. Managing pygmy hogs captive facilities in Assam, including management of infrastructure, staff and volunteers.
  3. Assist the PHCP head in project management, collection and analysis of field data and outreach activities. These also include data management, writing reports and research papers, imparting training and preparation of training material.

 

Minimum Qualification:  Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry.

Desired Qualifications:

  1. Knowledge and working experience in handling wild animals in captivity
  2. Trained in wildlife healthcare and management
  3. Working knowledge of computers and social media

Job position: Research Fellow

Number of vacancy: One

Duration: One year, but likely to be extended based on candidate performance and fund availability

Minimum qualification: M. Sc. In Zoology/Life Sciences/Fishery/Wildlife Biology/ Environmental Science/Forestry

Desired experience: Minimum one-year experience on wildlife/aquatic ecology, conservation of wildlife, data analysis, report writing and communication skills, computer skills including Assamese DTP

Job responsibility: Extensive fieldwork in different parts of Assam, especially in rivers using boats to study on ecology of aquatic fauna; undertake conservation actions on aquatic fauna in association with concerned stakeholders

6. The ‘Water, Climate and Hazard’ (WATCH) Division of Aaranyak will recruit two persons for the following positions:

Position 1: Project Associate (Water Governance: Research and Advocacy)

Minimum qualification essential: Post Graduate in any subject

Required disciplinary background (any one of het following): Social work, Sociology, Geography, Environmental Science, Development studies, Natural Resources Management, Mass Communication and Journalism, Gender studies

Required experience (one or more of the following options):

  • At least one year of experience in action research in water governance/rural development/natural resources management or related fields
  • Working with communities
  • Networking with civil society organisations and communities
  • Use of PRA tools
  • Publications

Required language skill: Excellent in communicating and reporting in English and conversant with Assamese

Tenure: 2 years with annual renewal of contract

8. Announcement of vacancy in the Geo-Spatial Technology and Application Division (GTAD), Aaranyak

Aaranyak is planning to recruit one young and dynamic person having experience in the field of Remote Sensing, Geographical Information System, GPS for the Geo-spatial Technology and Application Division (GTAD). The detailed information about the vacancy is given below.

Position: Geospatial Analyst

Responsibility:

i). Carry out core mapping and analysis using RS & GIS software

ii).  Carry out field work for and with staff of other divisions of Aaranyak as well as for GTAD in research sites (mainly in North East India and North Bengal Landscape).

iii). Assist Manager, GTAD in writing scientific reports, research papers and imparting short courses on RS/GIS/GPS training and preparation of training manuals.

iv). Assist Manager GTAD in all other RS/GIS/GPS based works and report on daily basis.

Minimum Qualification: (i) Post Graduate in Geo-informatics/Remote Sensing  & GIS/ Geospatial Technology  & 1 year of work experience in these fields(ii) Post Graduate in a relevant subject(i.e. geography, environmental science, geology)  with PG Diploma in Geoinformatics/Remote Sensing  & GIS/ Geospatial Technology & 1 year of work experience in these fields (iii) Post Graduate in a relevant subject(i.e. geography, environmental science, geology)  with 3 years of intensive work experience of application of Geoinformatics/Remote Sensing  & GIS/ Geospatial Technology.

9. Paid Internship Opportunity at Aaranyak

Aaranyak is seeking Interns to work with its Media Production & Communications Division on developing text as well as multimedia stories on biodiversity and environment issues of Northeast India.

The work involves content research and story idea development, primary as well as secondary data collection and may involve field work for data collection, photography and video documentation.

Qualifications:

Graduate or post-graduate degree in any discipline. Preference will be given to those with good writing experience/ reportage photography and published record of photo essay/ short video productions. Early career freelance journalists are encouraged to apply.

Total Number of Positions & Duration:

Six internship positions each with three months duration. The starting date will be discussed following receiving complete applications. However, we prefer only those applicants who are able to give minimum of three months commitment to the position.

Compensation:

Selected interns will be paid an honorarium of Rs. 5,000/ per month. Food and travel expenses during field work outside Guwahati will be provided by us.
